Kenny Kolter has performed in excess of nine hundred and fifty Sound Therapy workshops throughout the country over the last eight years. Kenny incorporates the use of gongs, drums, rattles, Tibetan bowls, chimes and various other instruments to wide spread critical acclaim. Kenny’s unique work is focused on providing participants a chance to escape the daily grind; meditate/pray, simply rest or go within, with the gong and drum providing an energetic and sonic backdrop.
Kenny is one of only a handful of sound therapists worldwide to play the gong in a therapeutic environment for patients in a clinical setting. Kenny received two consecutive contracts with the state of Illinois to provide sound/vibrational awareness sessions on a weekly basis at the state of Illinois’ largest mental health facility in Elgin, IL. Kenny conducted regular weekly sound therapy and drum circle sessions for a year and half at Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Zion, IL. Most recently Kenny played the gong for 50 inmates at The Federal Correctional Institution- Fort Worth.
Kenny was a featured presenter at the Illinois Rehabilitation Association Conference in April 2010 and at the Northern Illinois Rehabilitation Nurses Association in November 2010 and facilitated several group sessions at Centegra Hospital’s Outpatient Behavioral Health Program in Woodstock, IL. Kenny has facilitated group sessions at Aurora University, Elgin Community College, Texas Wesleyan University and The University of Texas at Arlington.
Playing percussion since age nine, Kenny approaches his performances with a subtle rhythmic quality, teasing out the vast array of tones, harmonics and shimmering nuances that reside within the various instruments. The result is that these sonic, mystical characteristics provide a vehicle for quieting the mind and body.
He has studied and performed with music educator, performance artist and author Michael Bettine; an internationally known authority on gongs and percussion. Kenny has traveled and performed internationally as a professional musician and has released four meditation CD's. His calendar is booked out months in advance and he regularly presents at area conferences, hospitals and colleges. He has been featured on Chicago National Public Radio, Yoga Chicago and Evolving Your Spirit & Natural Awakenings magazines.
