I came to yoga by chance in 1997 via a meditation course. The very first class I attended felt like I had found me! I knew that I was going to practice yoga from that moment on. From those very first classes I became calmer, clearer happier and more embodied. It didn't take long for my yoga practice to become a daily ritual for me as I felt the benefits in body, mind and spirit.

I traveled to India for 6 months in 2003 and spent time exploring yoga in more depth, spending time at the Yoga Niketan Ashram in Rishikesh and practicing with many teachers all over India and returned in 2008 for further study. During the earlier trip I became really inspired and truly started to connect with yoga philosophy and teachings beyond just the physical asana practice. It also affirmed my desire to teach so on returning to the UK I trained with Jim Tarran (my teacher of several years and the founder of Vajrasati yoga) in the Vajrasati School of yoga and started teaching in 2004 and became fully qualified (Yoga Alliance 500 hours) in 2006. I am now a Senior Teacher of the Vajrasati school and I assist training new students on the Vajrasati teacher training course. As I believe yoga is a constant journey of learning I continue to further my development with regular training with teachers such as Cathy-Mae Karelse, Judith Lasater, Sarah Powers, Donna Farhi, Paul Grilley and Christopher (Hareesh) Wallis.

My teaching style is calming and focused with particular attention given to breath awareness and cultivation and recognition of energy and connection with our inner state of being. I use dynamic and restorative (and a whole range in-between!) classical and modern postural yoga asanas to bring us towards yoga/integration. I teach based on the astanga (8 limbs - not to be confused with astanga vinyasa) path of yoga , incorporating yoga philosophy into my asana classes, and teaching other practices such as pranayama (breathing practices), dhyana (meditation) and mantra (chanting). I am also inspired by meditation and traditional yoga philosophy such as the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali and tantra texts such as the Vijnana Bhairava, Shiva Sutras and the Spanda Karika and a strong interest in feminine deities of Indic philosophy but I also take inspiration from anything and everything from being a mother to being an environmentalist or just simply being a being in the world!

Perfect way to start the weekend

Khadines sessions are never two the same. She seems to introduce new ways of moving the body each week to engage muscles and stretch through into places you didn't know were possible! So good to get to those places that you hadn't realised were so caught up!

more

The movement in the physical body is supported by Khadine talking about the spiritual body, visualising the energy flow through the earth and your physical self and what is actually happening internally from a spiritual point of view and also physiologically in the bodily systems, such as how the Psoas and Vagus nerve are engaged and what that means for the your body.

My partner is an Osteopath and also really enjoys this class. He is always impressed by Khadines knowledge and explanations of what's going on in the physical body.

This is a major part of the enjoyment and fullfillment for me, her words are grounding and uplifting and help you to be in your body and feel good that you're giving back to yourself.

I highly recommend starting your Saturday morning with this class. I have Psoriatic Arthritis so sometimes fatigued but I am always glad I got up and out to it, much more energising to get the body moving than more sleep!

If I have pain in wrists etc she is always there with an alternative/ blocks/bands etc and will support my stretch hands on to take the pressure off me. Which I really appreciate as I don't then feel like I can't do something.

I wouldn't say it is a gentle class, for me anyway but I think you can make it as strong or gentle as you need that day.

Wonderfully illuminating

A relative newcomer to yoga, I turned up at Khadine’s class just under a year ago. Since then, they have become something that I look forwards to every week. Khadine’s level of knowledge is that of a scholar, but expressed with the depth and sincerity of a true practitioner. Asanas are taught via clear and guiding instruction, presented from a place of experience, yet with a sense of freedom that enables the individual to discover the internal space themselves.

Her classes present a modern landscape for growth and learning, rich with the essence of ancient traditions. They have a warm and peaceful quality and gently express how the practice of yoga begins, now. It is a pleasure to learn with Khadine I enjoy each opportunity to arrive and drop in.

Weekly retreat

I had been looking for a great yoga teacher in Brighton and Hove for a few years and have been to lots of classes, none have come close to Khadine's. Khadine is a dynamic teacher and no two classes are the same. Khadine takes time to explain each pose and brings the spiritual into every move. Khadine is very knowledgeable about yoga and obviously studies hard to maintain and expand her repertoire. She teaches me that yoga is an ongoing practice mentally, physically and spiritually and is able to bring Eastern philosophy to everyday life in Hove. All of her classes are inspirational and she is a teacher I will follow for as long as I practice.

Best yoga teacher I've ever had

Khadine is off the scale fantastic in my opinion. She has the passion, ability and commitment to make everyone in her classes feel empowered and growing through their yoga practice. I've had other yoga teachers before and since I met her but no one comes close. Her classes and retreats are my first choice whenever I can go and always will be.

Deep, knowledgeble, dedicated

I have been Khadine's student for many years. Khadine is a very inspiring teacher with deep knowledge of the subject of Yoga. She has warm personality and she is very enthusiastic about the subject of yoga which is always felt in her classes. She continues study and every class she teaches is different and full of great insights of this wonderful subject which Khadine has got a gift to pass on her students. She works with subtle bodies and she can take you into stronger asanas on very gentle way without loosing the awareness of that which is subtle. She is wonderful, inspiring and very knowledgeable teacher.

Khadine has a way of gently luring your body into doing things you didn't know you can do without any feeling of effort. There is so much in every instruction that it feels like there is always something new to learn. Khadine truly believes in what she teaches and consequently is inspiring. One of the most unusual things about Khadine's teaching is that she intentionally gets out of the way so that students with support and encouragement experience things for themselves. Precious teacher.

Khadine Morcom: The Best Kind of Teaching

Khadine’s enthusiasm and passion for yoga is beautifully expressed, generously shared, and infectious. She brings in her vast knowledge of yoga philosophy to underpin the physical practice, pointing to yoga as a practical philosophy and deepening my interest in it holistically. Her voice is calm and clear, and her instruction is easy to absorb. She generously shares her own direct experience/knowing, and I have a complete sense of trust in her as a teacher, which enables me to surrender.

Through the general tone and feel of her classes she guides her students towards safety, encouraging us to listen and respond to our own bodies/experience with compassion and space. Through sharing sūtras, philosophies, and direct experience, her classes always point to integration and union on every level. Because of this, classes are never simply the postures and doors are constantly being open to new things to explore. This, for me, is the best kind of teaching, because it awakens my own interest and further investigation.

One of the best

The multiple choice sliders aren't the best way to provide a review as it doesn't allow you to qualify the answer, However, khadine is probably right up there amongst the best yoga teachers and that is based simply on the way I have felt after attending many of her classes/workshops over the years. The class I regularly attend is generally packed so that speaks volumes. Summing up: if your looking for authentic yoga I'd most definitely recommend Khadine.

Beautiful guiding energy

I leave Khadine's classes feeling elevated and yet utterly grounded too. She explains and explores each posture in such detail using clear and accessible language even for the more complex ideas and approaches. I can't recommend her enough whether you are beginning from scratch or hoping to deepen you existing practise. You're guaranteed to learn in abundance and have fun on the way.

One of the best yoga trachers in Brighton

I have been a pupil of Khadine's for a few years and I have practiced with many teachers. Khadine' classes are special not only because she is a very skilled yogi and teacher but also because she approaches things with humility and humanity and always in a very relaxed way which means all levels feel at home. For those who are more spiritually minded, she is very knowledgeable and one can tell she has not only studied but more importantly thought through some of the teachings of the yoga pholosophy
