Kirsten’s professional background is psychology – she gained her honours degree in Experimental Psychology from Oxford University in 1987 and had a successful career as a Chartered Educational Psychologist.

She took up yoga after leaving university in 1988 and soon realised that it offered a more complete analysis of the human condition than Western Psychology. Since then she has practised Iyengar Yoga continuously and has taught full time since 2000.

Her initial Iyengar Yoga teacher training was in Manchester, UK, qualifying in 1997. She studied for her Junior and Senior certificates in London and Bath. She travels annually to Pune, India to study with the Iyengars. She is qualified to Senior level 3, is an approved teacher trainer and assessor of teachers for the IY(UK) and is invited to teach all over the UK and internationally. She taught the Swedish national convention in 2012. She was Honorary Secretary of the Light on Yoga Association UK for some years and now serves on various committees of the Iyengar Yoga Association (UK). She currently teaches in Bermuda

Thankful for such a knowledgeable and experienced teacher

I am so thankful to have been able to learn yoga practice from such an experienced and knowledgeable teacher. It’s not easy being a yoga teacher as people come along with all sorts of injuries, knowing you’re in good hands is vital with bad injuries, and I know I am with Kirsten. She’s helped me to gain strength in my back after a long standing upper back injury, and also helped me with treating headaches recently based on some carefully chosen yoga postures. And this is with only three months of weekly classes – imagine how much progress I will see over a longer period. The classes are hard work but really rewarding, all Kirsten’s pupils are very loyal.

My experience of Kirsten's teaching as a beginner

I have really appreciated being taught by Kirsten. She focuses on each individual in the class and responds effectively to their particular needs. I have learnt where to push myself in my own practice as a beginner and most importantly I see yoga as something I would like to continue in my life. Thank you very much.

Kirsten Agar Ward, voice of an angel

The Iyengar yoga community is extremely fortunate to have someone like Kirsten flying the flag for Iyengar yoga in the UK. Kirsten, an Intermediate Senior level 3 teacher, is an inspiring and dedicated practitioner and teacher. She regularly attends classes at the RIMYI in Pune, which is apparent in her teaching and lifestyle. Kirsten and her husband Richard do an amazing job running their beautiful centre in Bath, along with juggling other commitments for the Iyengar yoga community and their families.
