Kristi Martel, MFA, E-RYT®
Musician, Yoga Teacher, & Intuitive Energy Healer

Kristi Martel's yoga practice began in 1999 after badly injuring her back as a jujitsuka, dancer, and performance artist. Within 5 months she lost 40 pounds and could once again touch her toes. Since then, she has practiced Iyengar Yoga, AcroYoga, Prana Flow Yoga, Jivamukti Yoga, Baptiste Power Yoga, Restorative Yoga, Yin Yoga, and Yoga Nidra, but she mostly craves the rich openings and insights available through Heated Vinyasa and loves that it is a flexible-enough medium to integrate the power of ALL of these practices. Kristi is a longtime student of Rhode Island's Divya, Tom Gillette, and Jessie Meyer-Eisendrath. She has also studied with Dharma Mittra, Patricia Walden, and Coral Brown and completed Yogaphoria's 200-hour Yoga and Wellness Teacher Training with Seane Corn, Anodea Judith, Matthew Sanford, Melanie Smith, Carolyn Cohen, and Karin Eisen in 2011.

In addition to being a devoted yogini, Kristi is a nationally touring and recording pianist, vocalist, songwriter, and music teacher with awards, degrees, and over 20 years experience (). She has also studied many holistic therapies such as Integrated Energy Therapy, Herbal and Food-based Wellness, Meditation, and Applied Kinesiology and offers private sessions utilizing these modalities to help clients heal themselves. And she loves creating interesting playlists and singing to her students while they're in savasana.

For two years, Kristi was a DJ and AAA Music Director on WRIU 90.3FM where she played a wide range of her favorite music every other Sunday midnight to 3am on her show, Butterfly Mixtapes (). With Joan Peters at Alvin Ailey in NYC, Kristi has studied her favorite dance, Katherine Dunham's technique, a magnificent and vigorous combination of Haitian folkloric dance and Ballet barre.

Teaching yoga feels like an exquisite way to integrate all of these deep loves into one beautiful expression of transformation. Kristi is honored and humbled to share these gifts.
