Movement, rhythm and dance have been my primary sources of joy from earliest childhood. But a serious injury made me conscious of what a gift it really was to be able to move freely. That injury brought me to a renewed relationship to my body and to an even deeper, more conscious exploration of the joy—and the health benefits—to be found in movement. As a result of these experiences I discovered that, not only was I a dancer, but a teacher as well. A significant part of my life lies in helping students open to the same sources of joy within their own bodies.
The journey began when I entered my first dance class at the age of 4. Subsequent years of dance training, performance and choreography led to a career in the fitness profession, as well as certification as an ACE Certified Personal Trainer.
Since 2007 I have been a Certified Kripalu Yoga Teacher, E-RYT 500. Though I am also a student of Iyengar Yoga, I chose to certify at Kripalu, whose approach encourages me, as a teacher, to combine respect for precision and alignment, with delight in movement, music and whimsy. At Kripalu, the body is the ultimate authority. Kripalu is the yoga of self-discovery, as every day is a different journey.
I have studied with Elise Miller, a Senior Iyengar Teacher, and have also certified with her as a Yoga for Scoliosis Trainer.
In addition I am a Certified Cancer Exercise Specialist and have created a special video program for cancer patients and survivors: <;. In this DVD presentation I teach four classes combining yoga, dance, fitness, breath-work and meditation. Time and again, my students and I have seen spectacular results, as these movements inspire their hearts and bodies, and help them to detoxify, to heal and to move toward wellness.
I am currently the Recreation Manager at the Genoveva Chavez Community Center in Santa Fe, NM, programming and coordinating all the fitness, yoga and outdoor recreation classes.
I treasure my students and take delight in seeing them respond to what is really a simple truth: Movement is life.
