I have been practicing yoga since 1989. When I first discovered yoga it was through my work as a budding journalist in Chico, CA. My story assignment was to write an article about hatha yoga for a weekly alternative arts and living column. I found a local yoga teacher and decided to write about him. Through my interview, I learned this teacher , who gracefully transitioned from inversions to backbends, had suffered a debilitating back injury while working in construction. Doctors told him he would need back surgery and possible spinal fusion but he decided instead to see if yoga might help. Ten years later and he was now talking to me about how yoga not only healed him, it made him stronger and more grounded than ever. I was so inspired by this story I decided to start practicing yoga. My interest led me to a job at Yoga Journal in the early 1990s. Then, in 1993 I was in a major car accident that left me unable to walk for several months. After months of physical therapy and a regular therapeutic yoga practice, I was able to walk without pain again. While working at Yoga Journal and meeting amazing yoga teachers, a new passion began to I promised myself that one day I would study to become a yoga teacher and share this amazing life practice with others. But before I did, I raised my son and daughter first, all the while practicing yoga and bringing its wonderful gifts of mindfulness into every facet of my life. Not always an effortless tasks with two little ones! Once the kids were in high school, I took the leap and earned my 500 RYT through YogaWorks in 2013, Restorative Yoga certification and Yin Yoga certification in 2014 and most recently certification in the Urban Zen Integrative Therapy Program, which combines four healing modalities, yoga therapy with Reiki, essential oil therapy and contemplative care to address symptoms of illness and dis-ease.
When not on the mat practicing, studying or teaching yoga, I switch out my yoga pants for a pair of chef pants. As a chef, culinary instructor and nutrition consultant, I bring yoga into the kitchen and endeavor to help others discover vibrant wellness through food, community and mindful choices in body, mind and spirt. My journey has allowed me to integrate my three passions, yoga, cooking and nutrition into my life and my work. To find out more about my work check out my website at
