Ma Shakti is a visual artist, holistic educator and energy worker. She combines her academic background in art, philosophy and education with her training in yoga, energy healing and spiritual psychology to offer a creative holistic approach to well being. By integrating arts and yogic psychology she developed a unique creative healing technique that she shares through various projects based in the UK and overseas.

She embraced the path of Yoga in 2009 and explored different styles with various teachers- such as Kundalini Yoga, classical Hatha, Iyengar, Ashtanga Vinyasa, Tantra.
After a couple of years of dedicated practice, she was inspired to move to India and experience Yogic tradition in its original context.
She travelled across the Indian subcontinent until she finally found her guide and settled in Rishikesh, where she devoted herself to ongoing training in the oral Himalayan tradition and Samaya Tantra under the expert guidance of a direct disciple of many illustrious masters, such as Swami Veda Bharati, Swami Rama, Goenka.
Her studies encompass Yoga Philosophy, classical Raj Yoga, traditional Kundalini Yoga, Tantra, Yoga Nidra and basics of Ayurveda.

Upon her return to the Uk in 2012 she founded Shakti Healing Gardens and she began to facilitate courses, retreats and intensive yoga teacher training courses in India and other locations in Uk and abroad.

In the Uk, Shakti is also a pioneer of teaching full 1 hr Yoga Nidra classes since 2013. Until then this practice was only offered as a form of short relaxation at the end of asana classes or could be accessed through specialist teacher training.

On one of her frequent visits to India, Shakti met her tantric mentor - international painter and Naga Sadhvi Druvinka Puri, a disciple of Baba Ram Puri, Sri Mahant of Juna Akhara (the largest and oldest order of Sadhus in India). She offered yet another dimension to Shakti’s understanding of the practice, which came to encompass tantric shamanic practices.

In 2015 she started studying Odissi at the Bharat Vidya Bhavan from Guru smt Urbi Basu. Dance is now yet another reason to travel regularly to India, where she undertakes intensive training with local teachers such as Sri Padma Ileana Citarristi in Bhubaneswar.

Very safety-oriented when it comes to asana teaching; far more experimental with her creative approach to yoga as a path to merging and transcending polarities.

Her knowledge and dedication gently inspire and guide many to explore the innermost dimension of their existence.

Yoga Nidra

I had my first experience of Yoga Nidra with Ma Shakti on Sunday evening at Zen Yoga and it was wonderful. So peaceful and calming. I have slept better since the class and plan to attend more in the future to improve my practice. Ma Shakti is warm and welcoming, I would thoroughly recommend.

Yoga Nidra with Shakti Ma

My friend and I attended Shakti Ma’s Yoga Nidra class last week for the first time. I’d had an insight to Yoga Nidra once before but my friend hadn’t and we both really felt the benefit from the practice. Shakti was very welcoming and her manner instantly put us at ease, helping us to make the most of our experience. The environment Shakti created also helped with this (room temperature, comfort, ambience). I will definitely be attending one of Shakti’s classes again and look forward to what my next Yoga Nidra practice brings.

Yoga Nidira review

I went for my first yoga nidira class with Ma in Zen Yoga in Camberwell this week. The class was really excellent and exactly as described. Ma has a great energy and practice. My only comment for improvement would be a little more guidance on what to expect while we are in the midst of the practice. Will definitely be back. Patrick

You're in safe hands travelling deep with Ma Shakti

Ma Shakti creates a nurturing and calming environment that you feel as soon as you go through the door and into her space. She pays attention to the small details that maintain stillness, comfort and harmony, allowing you to slip away into the recesses of your mind as you follow the instructions of her soothing voice. The process involves focusing your mind on different parts of the body and the chakras, to visualise elements associated with them. At the end, the body and mind feel rejuvenated and cared for.

Beautiful session

Having come back from a yoga retreat where we did lots of yoga nidra, I was delighted to find a local class and Ma was a fantastic guide. It's the best yoga nidra experience I have had so far and I'll definitely go back next term.

Inspirational

I attended a session of yogic art healing with Ma Shakti, and was inspired by her warm and friendly demeanour. Often people, especially in London, can be a little closed and stand off-ish but not Ma Shakti who showed a streak of passion in her gentleness, which supported a safe environment for participants to truly open up and reveal their strengths and weaknesses to each other, without judgement. It was truly a joy and a pleasure to work with Ma Shakti and her students, and I would definitely recommend her as a teacher to anyone who is looking for holistic guidance and a much more intimate, approach to group work that facilitates deeper learning and transformation. All the best with your practice Ma Shakti, and I hope we meet again soon.

kind,

Ma is a lovely person with so much dedication and wisdom to share. I had my first Nidra Yoga class with her and I really enjoyed it. It was challenging for the first time but deeply relaxing. It works through the inner states of mind to infuse calm and stillness. I recommend it for anyone who is interested in Self discovery.

Great yoga nidra sessions

I've been attending Ma Shakti's yoga nidra sessions for 6 months now and find it a very relaxing way to end my weekend/start the week. Her voice is very calming and she mixes it up a little by adding in different elements after the body scan each session: we might be visualising ourselves in a landscape or she may have a little chime for us to focus on for example. A nice guided session for people like me who find it hard to meditate at home.

Introduction to Yoga Nidra

MaShakti ran an introductory course on International Yoga Day that introduced me to Yoga Nidra. I found her approach to be very powerful in helping you connect with your inner self even though it was momentarily. Would highly recommend a class/ session with MaShakti if you are keen to use yoga to achieve a state of mental peace where the mind can be calmed.

The Voice

Ma Shakti creates a beautiful space with wonderful touches such as hand made floral waters made with water from the Ganges that she uses to delicately scent the room. Hand made pure chocolates that she gives out after the session. Those are generous and thoughtful touches. Best of all is Ma Shakti's voice which has a beautiful energy and really helps to guide you in that relaxed super conscious state for yoga nidra. Highly recommend her unique sessions

Fun finger painting for grown ups

So my flatmate told me that her friend was running this event and I was in the mood to try something different so I went along. I've never been very 'arty' in the visual sense, but that didn't matter- the experience ending up being gentle and creative. I train very technically as a dancer so it was kinda nice to be creative for creativity's sake and not to worry about technique and perfection. Swirling colours around with my fingers was playful and relaxing and there was a few important insights to come away with.

A shining star! A sage and experienced soul gardener.

A wildly creative experience. Great at bringing out the inner artist, such a diversity of art and conscious techniques, particularly good at weaving art and meditation together in a flowing unpredictable manner to get you inspired and on a journey of discovery. All events experiences have been positive Ma Shakti energetically holds the participants in a very loving and safe space. You will leave feeling refreshed and inspired.

Workshop at Shekinashram in Glastonbury 15 February

I had the pleasure of taking part in a workhop with Ma Shakti in Glastonbury February 2015. Ma Shakti is a really wonderful yoga teacher. She has great knowledge of many yogic and spiritual disciplines and she combines them in a way that is very inspiring.

more

The theme of the workshop was self- love.I took part in it on the second day. We started the day by doing "tapping" movements on our bodies. Ma Shakti explained how each area we tapped was connected to a particular organ or area in the body. We did this while listening to Ma Shakti read a meditative and illuminating text about self- love. After this session we danced around the room in preparation for the yogic excercises.
I really appreciated the way Ma Shakti explained yoga to us. She both demonstrated and explained each pose very thorougly - both the physical and emotional aspect. What I loved about her way of teaching was that she has such a strong spiritual connection and this really made me understand the purpose of the postures even better. She also pushed us a bit so we could do a little bit more than we thought we could. She also asked us to not do anything that feels painful and to listen to our bodies. I felt very guided and safe while doing the postures - even the more difficult ones. I can highly recommend Ma Shakti as a teacher!
