Martina has practised yoga for close to 30 years and been teaching for 25.
These days her personal practice is solely in the Shadow Yoga method developed by Shandor Remete which she began exploring over 6 years ago, and she practises regularly with Shandor & Emma Balnaves (Shandor’s wife).
Since June 2019, separate from her other teaching, she has begun introducing the Shadow Yoga practice to students, and slowly her teaching is moving more to Shadow Yoga.
In Auckland she teaches regular weekly public yoga classes, seasonal courses & and offers private tuition. Her teaching is steeped in tradition yet accommodating to each individual students needs.
Her practice & teaching prior to Shadow Yoga was predominantly in the Ashtanga tradition as taught by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois of Mysore, India.
She travelled several times to India, to study with the Jois family in Mysore. Before Pattabhi Jois’s passing in 2009 she received authorisation and blessing to teach through his institute (KPJAYI) and attended a teaching training with Sharath in 2010.
She has also practiced extensively with Peter Sanson, Dena Kingsberg & Matthew Sweeney, and is certified to teach Matthew Sweeney’s Chandra & Simha Vinyasa Krama sequences.
She has also done apprenticeships in Vinyasa Yoga with Julie Emmerson of Stressless Yoga in 1994, and in Hatha and Ashtanga yoga with Peter Nilsson of Auckland Yoga Academy from 2001-2004.
In 2005 Martina was registered as an E-RYT 500 (Experienced -Registered Yoga Teacher 500 hours) through Yoga Alliance.
