Mary has been teaching Hatha Yoga since 1986. She was a member of the Yoga Teachers Association of Greater Detroit and trained with Iyangar instructors and others from 1984 till 1993 when she moved to Minneapolis. She finished her 600 hour certification through the International Himalayan Yoga Teacher Training Program in 2007 and is member of Yoga Alliance at the ERYT 500 level, also serves on the faculty of the HYT Training Program. Classes are taught through a spiritual based style and are for all levels of training, modifications are shown to fit your body and advanced options for those with more experience.

Mary also teaches Anatomy in Clay classes for yoga teachers in training, or anyone, looking for a unique way to learn the muscles of the body and of key yoga asanas, learning their actions and attachments. Common injuries are also discussed in class.

Every teacher is different - know your needs.

Every teacher is different. What you are looking for in a teacher may not be what I am looking for in a teacher. What I wanted in a teacher when I was in my 20's is not what I want now that I'm closer to 40.

I love Mary's classes. Her style changes depending upon where you take a class from her. If it's at the Meditation center then she covers the spiritual stuff. If it's elsewhere the focus is on asanas. I've taken classes from her in two different locations.

When I was in my 20s and doing yoga I took Iyengar yoga and loved it. I'm glad I got that as my foundation. It has helped me with my practice since then. However, I am now busy busy busy, stressed and need a class that pushes me a bit but doesn't make me feel like I'm on the very edge of my ability. Mary had adjusted for my needs and offered up alternatives for me when I come to class and tell her my low back is acting up from stress, etc. etc. She will often give you "take home" suggestions for your particular problem that day.

She is also a massage therapist and teaches anatomy classes for massage and artists and so her understanding of why you have pain in a particular spot and what you can do to take care of yourself is top notch.

I would recommend Mary for the beginner to the very experienced to, like myself, the very stressed.
