Dr. Maureen Hughes, PhD, LMT, CATP, CTT is a Yoga Teacher and SomaVeda® Traditional and Indigenous Therapies Teacher and Advanced Practitioner. Spending most of her time as a 1-1 Thai Yoga Massage Practitioner, she has been teaching SomaVeda® Thai Yoga classes for 6 years, and has taught over 150 students. When it comes to Hatha Yoga, she teaches some private yoga lessons but is currently the only Clothing Optional Yoga Instructor in St. Louis, MO. Her style is eclectic, integrating some Flow, Iyengar, QiGong, and Eden Energy Exercises. As a SomaVeda® Therapeutic Day Program Practitioner she integrates Thai Yoga Massage, Bio-Tapp/EFT (Tapping), applied kinesiology, Ayurvedic Dietary Analysis and Consultation, Reiki, and Hatha and Restorative Yoga in her 7-22 Day Program.

Always having been most interested in helping others, the human body, and how it works, Maureen’s knowledge spans from the molecular to the energetic, physiological, and more. She graduated with Honors from The Healing Arts Center in July 2015, and is honored to be practicing SomaVeda® Thai Yoga, massage therapy, and teaching private Yoga Sessions as out-call, or at her space at Shanti Yoga STL (7346 Manchester Rd). She completed her 1200hr SomaVeda® Thai Yoga Teacher Training program in March 2016, with the intent of bringing the powerful healing art to as many people as possible all over the world. In this manner she offers the 200 Hour Certified Thai Practitioner -1 program, which begins with the "Fundamentals of SomaVeda® Thai Yoga" 16 hour Course (which gives 16 NCBTMB CEUs for LMTs in any state).

Yoga is a very scientific discipline, and when Maureen teaches, she focuses on teaching the fundamentals, providing adjustments as needed, along with teaching the “why”. Maureen’s goal is that yoga is accessible for practitioners of all ages and abilities, working at the pace of the student, doing her best to pass on the teachings in 1/3 of the time it took for her to learn. Maureen’s journey has led her to visit Pune, India three times, both to experience the ancient detoxification process known as Ayurvedic PanchaKarma, and to practice Iyengar Medical Yoga. She is also certified in India for Ayurvedic Dietary analysis, and periodically runs workshops to help people learn to eat for their body type/constitution.
