I'm Melissa Hege. I am a deeply passionate Yoga Teacher, and new to Melbourne. I began my yoga journey in July of 2010 during my last summer session at East Carolina University, in my home state of North Carolina. During that summer session, I studied the positive effects of yoga practice, meditation & breathing techniques. Having gained a first hand knowledge on the theory, I decided to give the application a try. Thus, taking my first steps in my own yoga journey with a self taught practice. In December of 2013, I took my first class, and in that one class, I knew I had fallen in love with yoga. With every breath and pose, the surging energy of that first regimented experience allowed for me to feel closer to my mind and soul and, simultaneously, the universe, in a level deeper than anything I had ever imagined possible. I felt completely connected with life, the universe, and my surroundings. For the first time in my life; I felt that I was exactly where I was supposed to be. I knew right then and there, in that class, that I wanted to teach & share the beauty of yoga with as many people as I could.
Two years later, In the summer of 2015, I completed my yoga teacher training at Yogi Hari's Ashram - a traditional, intensive, residential program in Miramar, Florida. Yogi Hari & his wonderful teachers gave me further insight on the beauty of Sampoorna Hatha Yoga, a traditional yogic style created to help those who want to live a richer, happier, and more spiritually present lifestyle, founded primarily on long lasting yogic values. More specifically, the Sampoorna Yoga style that I have come to specialize in, is a derivative of Sivananda Yoga & intelligently integrates Hatha, Raja, Karma, Bhakti, Jnana & Nada yoga in order to purify & harmonize all aspects of the human personality. This training, further helped to transform my life, as it gave me a deeper spiritual understanding, and trust in myself & my own capabilities, & showed me how rewarding the traditional yogic lifestyle can be.
I not only have a deep love for yoga, but also for life. I absolutely love to share the light that my yoga practice has sparked within me, with everyone I come into contact with. My goal as a yoga teacher is to help others find more fulfillment, through an authentic yoga practicing experience that comes directly from the heart. I want to help others find internal & physical strength to empower them through their practice, & subsequently, their daily lives. My beginners level Sampoorna yoga class will take you through a journey of traditional yogic breathing exercises, strengthening exercises, Hatha Yoga Postures & relaxation techniques. You'll leave my class feeling relaxed, recharged & happy.
