YogaFaith of Madison classes are taught by Melissa Martin. Melissa is a Yoga Alliance certified teacher. She received her 200-hour certification (RYT 200) from Northwest Yoga Academy in the Pacific Northwest. She also holds a RYFT 200 level certification, which is a concentrated study in faith-based yoga.
Melissa began practicing yoga over ten years ago after the birth of her second child. She was introduced to the concept of faith-based yoga at her church. She quickly fell in love with the practice because of the many physical, mental and spiritual benefits that yoga provides. Upon moving to Madison in 2012, Melissa realized that while there were many local options for practicing yoga, none were faith-based. In 2015, after a difficult year that included the death of her father, a close relative's cancer diagnosis and the discovery that her youngest son had permanent hearing loss, Melissa was encouraged by a counselor to make yoga a more regular part of her life. It was on the yoga mat that she felt that God was calling her to bring faith-based yoga to Madison.
Melissa is a wife to Brian and mom to three boys, ages 13, 10 and 7. She is a former school counselor and currently teaches preschool music and yoga. Melissa is a member of Madison First United Methodist Church and enjoys volunteering at the local schools and with the Morgan County Young Life Committee.
