A former dancer and gymnast, Melissa has spent her life learning about the mechanics of the human body, and the impact of different forms of movement. She turned to yoga as a form of rehabilitation after suffering from major hip, low back and ankle injuries and retrained her body to move in a healthier way. This foundation is evident in Melissa's classes where students are guided through the proper alignment of each posture.
In 2011 Melissa began to turn her practice inwards. She has since completed various yoga and meditation courses in India, Nepal, Southeast Asia, Europe and South America, including two 10-day silent meditation courses. She brings this experience into each of her classes, as students are taught how to use their breath to guide them deeper into their practice. Melissa's kind personality shines through as she guides students through hatha-based sequences that are designed to challenge both the body and mind.
Melissa completed her RYT-200 in Mysore, India in July 2015. While her training focused primarily on hatha and ashtanga principles and postures, Melissa was also trained in yoga therapy, partner yoga and prenatal yoga.
Melissa has significant experience teaching private classes where she is able to get to know her students, their needs, strengths and weaknesses. She enjoys working with each student to meet their goals and seeing them grow within their practice.
