Mimi has been a student of yoga since 1995 and an avid lover of dance since 1978, when her mother put her in ballet school for walking with turned-in toes. Mimi mainly teaches a breath and alignment-based vinyasa yoga that is cross-pollinated with aspects of Daoist and Buddhist teachings. She champions meditation as the answer to just about all of life's most pressing questions, and never underestimates the strength and clarity that yoga can provide at times when life turns grim corners. Her two main teachers in the yoga world, Erich Schiffmann and Donna Farhi, continually humble her with the idea that yoga is the art of living, listening, and learning to embody a deeply spiritual tradition. In 2002, Mimi co-founded Yoga Yard, Beijing’s first and leading yoga studio, which she co-directed for seven years. She now lives in London, and teaches classes, workshops and retreats in the UK and internationally. She is the author of the DVD “Vinyasa Yoga: A Steady Mindful Practice,” a contributor on , and on triyoga’s yoga teacher training faculty.

Simply the best

Mimi was my mentor throughout my 200h yoga TT, and I couldn't of asked for a more patient or knowledgeable person to help me through the training.
She is warm and companionate with an in depth understand of the philosophy of yoga.
I strongly recommend her classes. If I lived in London I would definitely attend weekly!

Exceptional yoga instructor

Mimi is not your usual yoga instructor. Extremely experienced and extremely knowledgeable, she teaches and practices very safe yoga. I place Mimi head and shoulders above not only a good yoga teacher but even a great yoga teacher. She is also caring, funny, loving, and smart.

My teacher, my mentor and my friend :)

Mimi has always been an inspiration, from the very first class I ever took with her when we both lived in Beijing. As a long-time student, I have observed and enjoyed how Mimi's practice and teaching has evolved - from Vinyasa, to Yin Yoga to, most recently, Vinyasa including lots of elements of Qigong and Chinese Five Element theory. I have loved every class I've taken with Mimi - her voice always has a calming effect on me and she seems to smile from every pore of her body.

Her sequences are always well-thought out and prepared and she is sensitive to every student's individual needs and capabilities. It was through Mimi's encouragement and guidance that I became a yoga teacher myself, assisting her through many packed classes in Beijing, and I continue to learn and be inspired by her quest for knowledge, her generosity of spirit and her goofiness. ;) Thank you , Mimi, for all you've shown me so far! xx

Unspoken meaning

Mimi's very lighthearted and deeply serious in her style. So don't expect any standard practice or off-the-shelf truisms in her classes, rather expect the meaning to emerge from the practice itself. There's nothing shocking or off the wall about her style - it's vinyasa there's no doubt about it - but there's a constant reaching out to things beyond the yoga tradition - qigong, movies she's just seen, books she's just read, stuff she's just done. Safe but always stretching out beyond the commonplace and comfortable. And at times, simply daffy.

Thank you Steve - what a surprise, and compliment! I have never had anyone describe anything I've done as daffy, but I'll take it :) Wishing you a great week.
