Monica Page Subia, E-RYT-500, Yoga Instructor, Yoga Therapist, Kirtan Artist
When Monica began practicing yoga, was stunned to find that yoga not only healed her physical maladies, but also transformed her heart, mind, spirit, relationships and entire life – all for the better! Her enthusiasm and love of yoga led her to complete her 500–hour Yoga Teacher certification at Svaha Yoga Shala in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Her magnificent teachers there, Patrick Vermeulen and Gösta van Dam are of the Jivamukti lineage and also had Iyengar training, leading to a rich and diverse yoga education. In addition, Monica completed a two-year Yoga Therapy training at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. In this training she studied (and continues to study) with several of the finest teachers in the Krishnamacharya/Desikachar lineage. She has also studied Anusara, Ashtanga and Sadie Nardini’s Core Strength Vinyasa.
Monica taught 200-hr Teacher Trainings at the Southwest Institute of Healing Arts (SWIHA) as well as studio classes, workshops and retreats. Her studio classes, called "Bhakti Vinyasa", are a joyful, celebratory experience of bringing Bhakti to the mat.
Her sense of wonder, gratitude and love toward her students and the practice of Yoga continuously expand and deepen.
Regarding her Bhakti Yoga practice, Monica has been chanting the Divine names in various forms, throughout her life.
In 2003, through her yoga practice at Svaha Yoga Shala in Amsterdam, she was introduced to Kirtan and Bhajans in Sanskrit and Hindi. She immediately fell into ecstatic Love with these forms of chant and has been chanting nonstop ever since. As a Bhakti yogini, chanting and sharing chant are an integral part of her yoga practice. Since moving to Tempe, AZ in 2009, she has participated in and led Kirtan and live music yoga events throughout the valley. She has performed at Bhakti Fest, “the Woodstock of Yoga” and Shakti Fest with Sirgun Kaur and Masood Ali Khan and locally, with Girish. She appears on Masood’s CD “Hang with Angels” and is currently working on her first full-length chant CD. Chanting and yoga have miraculously transformed her life and she is very grateful to be teaching and sharing this miracle with others!
