Monique Parker, E-RYT 200/RYT 500, is the owner of Taos Yoga Therapy and a senior teacher in the Svastha Yoga worldwide organization. Before opening Taos Yoga Therapy, she founded Svastha Yoga Institute, the school of Svastha Yoga and Ayurveda in Chennai, India, where she currently serves as director. Previously, Monique co-founded and directed the Yoga Teacher Certification Program at the University of New Mexico-Taos.
Synthesizing the fundamentals of asana, yoga psychology, pranayama, mantra, and chant for students across the US, Monique specializes in continuing education, individualized instruction, and the adaptation of classic yoga for therapeutic application.
She created “The Yoga of Mantra”, a call and response Sanskrit chanting CD as a way to make the recitation of sacred sounds accessible to students. Each year she conducts a 200-hour Svastha Yoga Teacher Training Certification in Taos, New Mexico and facilitates a Svastha Yoga Wellness Retreat at The Mandala Center in Capulin, New Mexico.
A personal student of , Indra, and Ganesh Mohan since 2005, Monique has twice traveled to India to study with the Mohan family and has completed two 200-hour Svastha Yoga Teacher Certifications, a 300-hour Svastha Yoga Therapy Certification, and two in-depth Yoga Psychology/Yoga Sutras programs.
Her journey as a yoga practitioner, teacher, therapist, and teacher of teachers began twenty years ago in Silicon Valley, studying with respected international yoga teachers Sherry Han, an expert in therapeutic yoga and Chinese Tui-na acupressure, Oxford scholar and senior Iyengar teacher Kofi Busia, Viniyoga founder and yoga therapist Gary Kraftsow, and Vedic chant instructor Sonia Nelson.
To better to understand anatomy and to incorporate additional healing modalities, Monique became a certified massage therapist in 1997. Five years later, she walked away from a lucrative high tech career and moved to a pinion forest at the base of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains in Northern New Mexico, where she dedicates herself to study, teaching, and service.
