Yoga has literally helped me stand up after a bad fall from an old ankle injury dating back to my years of competitive sport while growing up in Malaysia. I was looking for something other than the monotonous routine of the gym to rehabilitate my ankle when I stepped into my first Hatha yoga class. Despite a shaky introduction, I kept returning to yoga not only for the physical stability it provides but also the inner stillness which remained for extended periods after each practice. Curiosity eventually led me to try different styles of yoga including practices focusing solely on seated meditation and breathwork.
After 3 years of leaning into yoga amidst the rush of Singaporean corporate life, I signed up for a Hatha Vinyasa teacher training course in Bali. That experience triggered my desire to share the wonders of yoga and to question my priorities in life. Upon my return to Singapore in 2015, I left full-time corporate work to begin my teaching journey at a couple of studios where I taught a mix of Hatha, Vinyasa and Yin classes. My exploration has continued through self-practice and attending workshops/masterclasses.
I currently give private classes (now available in person at your home, online, or outdoors). You can also checkout my work on Instagram (abretualma) where I offer short tutorials and recordings of live lessons. These are donation-based and a great way to assess whether my style of teaching suits you.
