I went to my first yoga class after running my first (out of two) half marathon. I hated my first class - it was hot, it was miserable, it was 90 minutes! I didn't want to come back, but I had bought a Groupon and wanted to get my money's worth. So I went back. My second class was better than the first. So I kept going. Previously, I had tried yoga in my living room with a DVD. My shoulders were tight, my hips were tight, my hamstrings were tight - downward facing dog was not my friend. This time, there was no downward facing dog. So I kept going. Within a week, I was hooked. Within a month, I had decided to become a teacher. I taught for 6 months and then teacher burnout set in. Teaching yoga is not as glamorous as it may seem. I got a "real" job and climbed the corporate ladder for a few years. Then, I realized how truly miserable I was. I went back to yoga and have embraced my calling ever since.
Recently, I opened my own studio - Compass Yoga. I can't wait to see where this journey takes me!
