Discovering yoga a little later in life, Renée was first introduced to the practice in her mid-30s while participating in a work-sponsored fitness challenge. One class was all it took to get her seriously hooked. Despite the fact that she was humbled by the difficulty of that first class, something about yoga captivated her interest in ways that no other "fitness program" ever had. She returned to class every chance she got, fueled by the incredible sense of calm following a rigorous class and amazed at how yoga helped her manage the stress of hectic days in the corporate world.
Eventually her focus shifted from the purely physical practice and she began to take a scholarly approach, devouring as much information from as many sources as she could. Six years later, she received her 200 hour yoga teacher certification from Nature Yoga Sanctuary in Chicago. She is now teaching in yoga studios and gyms in the Chicago area, as well as to private clients. She will receive her 85 hour pre/post natal certification in September 2014. In addition to specializing in this amazing, yet incredibly underserved population, she hopes to add Birth Doula to her roster of services by 2015.
Throughout her journey, she has been inspired by many teachers and has been fortunate enough to study with the ones who have made the most impact on her practice, especially the incredibly knowledgeable Gary Kraftsow, the wonderfully down-to-earth Jason Crandell and countless others. She also gives special thanks to Lela Beem and Cassie Rogers, who have been inspirational role models and mentors in her pre/post natal teaching.
Renée’s students can expect a non-intimidating, well-rounded class consisting of an intelligently sequenced Vinyasa flow, balanced with elements of yin, along with breathwork and meditation. Her lighthearted approach is welcoming to absolute beginners and experienced yogis alike. If there is one lesson Renée hopes to share with her students, it’s that yoga isn’t only about the pose, it’s about the journey to get there.
When she's not on the mat, you can find her attempting to teach herself Spanish, travelling the globe, gardening in her backyard, cuddling with her pug or biking around the city.
