I started learning yoga as taught by Sri Iyengar in 1975. My first class with him was in 1976 and my first visit to RIMYI in Pune was in 1977. I have visited RIMYI for classes on 23 occasions since and continue to go annually for classes with the Iyengars. I was Chairperson of the Light on Yoga Association from its inception in 1988 until 1999. Since 2000 I have been running the Bath Iyengar Yoga Centre with my wife Kirsten. I am a Moderator for the IY(UK) and have been training teachers since 1990 at all levels.

Richard Agar Ward, a true yogi

Richard is a true yogi, his dedication to Guruji and the practice of Iyengar yoga is inspirational. Richard’s knowledge of the subject is vast having practised yoga pretty much his whole life and taught for 37 years. He seems to know something about everything in yoga and life and has such compassion and honesty towards all his students. Like his wife, Kirsten, Richard continues regularly to bring back the teachings and ethos of Iyengar yoga from the RIMYI in Pune, India. If anyone reading this ever gets the opportunity to be taught by Richard please go for it, you will truly learn about yoga.

Teacher of Iyengar

A rather dull teacher, good at the movements ,but lacks compassion and has much to learn about life.

Dedicated, caring teacher with years of excellent experience

Richard's teaching stays with you, for years. He is a expert teacher of the Iyengar method of yoga and has a warmth and enthusiasm that is infectious and inspiring. I can still remember things he taught me years ago as his methods are based on a solid foundation of experience and knowledge. His insights are profound and based on years of his own learning and study. I would highly recommend anyone not to miss the opportunity to attend classes with him or his wife, Kirsten as they are truly dedicated teachers with their student's best interests at heart.
