Hi, I'm a certified teacher in Seasonal Yoga, Qigong (Chi Kung) and Aerial Yoga.
Seasonal Yoga which includes both Yoga and Qigong, is a dynamic flow based practice using the breath to balance our mind, body and emotions with the changing energy of the seasons.
As in nature, our bodies have their own innate intelligence and mechanisms for internal balancing. In the teachings of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), each major organ resonates with a particular seasonal energy. Using our own vital energy (Chi or Prana), which flows through the meridians to each major organ of the body. By practicing postures, movement and meridian stretches, we can influence our vital energy or emotional state.
The practice also includes breath work and meditation to bring us to a place of stillness and can often result in a feeling of calm and bliss. We hold emotional stress within our bodies and Yoga, Qigong and Meditation, helps to release those tensions so you feel lighter, calmer, bringing you to a place of stillness and quiet.
I emphasise the word 'practice'; Yoga is not about creating the perfect pose, it's about being on the mat, seeing how you feel and using your breath to work through the challenges each day may bring. Which is why people with all levels of ability can benefit from a Seasonal Yoga practice.
As we age, our health becomes our wealth; My Qigong class is designed to help you stay active and mobile in order to maintain independence for as long as possible. What age we are is irrelevant, it's how our body ages that matters; It becomes more about the quality of life, not just about extending your life. If you want to stay fit and active, you have to maintain what you don't want to lose.
In this class, we focus on gentle, mobility and Qigong exercises and meridian stretches to move the whole body. Qigong is great for bilateral patterning; using both left and right brain function and working on connective tissue to improve both strengthen, flexibility and movement.
Aerial Yoga is a brilliant technique using a soft hammock to support the weight of the body; it’s a fun and playful way to practice yoga. We combine traditional yoga postures and postures that you may not ordinarily be able to attempt on a yoga mat. It helps for deeper stretches and greater flexibility and allows you to build core strength with ease. It’s so playful it leaves you feeling refreshed and relaxed. I love it and I’m excited to be able to share this practice with students at Taylored-fit Physio.
