After years of competitive dance and cheerleading, the yoga mat was the first place where I was encouraged to stop comparing myself to others and learn to practice acceptance for what is. And in the depth of a cold Canadian winter in 2009, there was no place I would have rather been than in a hot and sweaty yoga class.
I completed my 200-hour teacher training over six months in 2013 through Hot Yoga Wellington under Lou Cassella, Claire Szabo-Cassella, and Christa Stebbing. In 2014, I completed training in Yoga Nidra, Level I and II, through Ashram Yoga in Auckland. I am a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) with Yoga Alliance.
Currently I work full-time as an addictions counsellor for a local NGO and, for the last year and a half, have facilitated weekly yoga sessions as a core component of an alcohol and drug treatment programme. I teach regularly at Hot Yoga Wellington, have led complimentary #omsunday classes at lululemon, and volunteered at Wanderlust Great Lake Taupo in 2015. I strive to teach in my classes what I crave as a student on my own mat: challenge, playfulness, and a whole lotta sweat.
