In my yoga classes I welcome and encourage starting where we are and touching softness, compassion and rest. Great music from India Aire, Passenger, Sufjan Stevens, José Gonzalez, The Head and the Heart and many others offer an uplifting, soothing and heart-opening container for our breath-focused flow through a range of strengthening and restorative poses.
I've been practicing yoga since 1995 and mindfulness since 2003. In addition to Whole Life Yoga’s 200-hour yoga teacher training, my teaching draws on trauma-informed yoga trainings with Street Yoga and Hala Khouri and integrated movement therapy training with The Samarya Center. I have also completed yoga, mindfulness and compassion training with Rebekkah LaDyne, Sharon Salzberg, and Sarah Powers as well as The Center for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education’s Compassion Cultivation Training and Kristin Neff's Mindful Self-Compassion program. Twenty years of dance experience with the Lara McIntosh dance community helps me open up my teaching to light-heartedness, challenge, beauty and fun.
In partnership with Casa Latina and University of Washington researchers, I teach Spanish-language yoga and mindfulness programs as practices for working with stress, trauma and oppression. I also teach yoga at Tiger Lily, a new social justice-oriented yoga studio in South Seattle, as well as a monthly mindfulness program for youth at the Puget Sound Zen Center on Vashon Island.
