Shannon Harty, 500 E-RYT
Shannon Harty, 500 E-RYT began teaching in early 2007 and has taught over 4,000 hours. She has taught in many studios and fitness facilities in the Hampton Roads area in Virginia, Knoxville, Tennessee and currently teaches in Southern New Jersey. She is a native of Virginia who completed her BSBA in Accounting at Old Dominion University in 2001 and her Masters in Professional Accountancy at the University of Texas in Austin in 2002. In August of 2002, she relocated to the Boston area to begin her career as an Accountant.
Working at Deloitte and in serious need of balance, she wandered into her first Yoga class at the Baptiste Power Vinyasa Studio in Cambridge, MA in 2002. The extremely rigorous Baptiste flow resonated with this former Division I Lacrosse player. Hooked at her first practice, she has been coming back to her mat and sharing Yoga ever since. Shannon fell in love with the way the practice grounded her and allowed her to take the "edge off" of her busy life. Yoga brought much needed balance back to her life and had a few added benefits - better sleep, a quite mind, a healthy spine and the peace that only savasana can bring! She refers to post-savasana bliss as her 'Yoga Bubble' and it was her desire to cultivate that feeling and access more presence in other areas of her life that led her to the first of many teacher trainings in 2006.
Since her first 200 hour Hot Yoga Teacher Training she has completed various other trainings in Vinyasa, Yoga for Athletes, Prenatal, and the Art of Hands-on Assisting with many teachers including Baron Baptiste, Rolf Gates, Sage Rountree, Christina Sell, Giaconda Parker, Sadie Nardini, Tyler McCoy and Graham Schweig. In August of 2010, Shannon decided to transition to teaching Yoga full-time and left the business world. She completed her advanced 500 hour Teacher Training with Rolf Gates in 2011 and Yoga for Athletes Training with Sage Rountree in 2012.
In addition to the trainings she takes, Shannon also leads trainings and teaches Yoga Teachers. Her first class of 200 Hour Teacher Trainees graduated in the summer of 2013. She believes in continually training, learning and evolving as a student and as a teacher. Her students enjoy a powerful and playful, alignment based asana practice and an atmosphere inspired by the teachings from the other 7 limbs of Yoga.
In practice and in teaching, she believes in and encourages her students to remember to have a sense of humor and to take themselves lightly! She shares her love of Yoga and community in her classes and truly believes that there is something in Yoga for everyone - be it the physical practice, Yogic teachings, breath or connection to oneself and the community.
Shannon can be found teaching Vinyasa, Gentle Yoga, Yin Yoga, Prenatal Yoga and Mommy & Me Yoga Classes in Southern New Jersey.
