Shimmy has relocated to Cape Town after 10 successful years of teaching in one of London most popular yoga studios. based yoga teacher passionate about teaching Beginners, Pregnancy, Restorative and Yin Yoga.

She experienced her first yoga class in 2003. From that point in time, she knew that sharing the practice of yoga was what she wanted to do for the rest of her life, and has never looked back since.

Shimmy's yoga journey brought her to complete a BWY Foundation course with Tara Fraser at Yoga Junction, and thanks to an auspicious alignment of stars and developments in life, followed a Astanga Vinyasa Teacher Training (with Julie Martin & Melanie Cooper, RTY 500) at Brahmani Yoga, India in 2009.
Shimmy is also a qualified Pre & Postnatal (RYT100) and Restorative Yoga teacher (Jodi Boone, Brahmani Yoga), and recently completed a 100 Hour Anusara Yoga Immersion with Bridget Woods Kramer in London.

Shimmy is a highly skilled and experienced yoga teacher with over 10 years teaching practice. Her expertise ensures each class caters for those that are new to yoga as well as advanced/experienced practitioners wanting to refine their existing practice and set deeper foundations for more advanced asana.

Her love for teaching is conveyed through her patient, nurturing and often humorous teaching style, which is not be confused with easy. She encourages building strength to support a mindful approach to yoga which allows practitioners to create and experience their own unique dialogue between mind and body.

Having practiced with a number of highly experienced teachers in both the Iyengar and Ashtanga traditions, Shimmy loves to create sequences to suit the energy and level of the class, whilst also challenging and inspiring students to honour their abilities and presence on and off the mat.

Beginners/ beginners plus and restorative

Shimmy is an amazing teacher. She brings knowledge, lightness, incredible intuition and humour to her classes. She is so humble and really helps you move through your practice whilst feeling in safe hands.
I would highly recommend Shimmys classes for everyone from absolute beginners and those recovering from injuries and illness to anyone with a regular practice who wants to brush up on basic skills or refine their practice.
Whatever the reason for your interest in attending a yoga class I can 100% guarantee you will find everything you need and things you didn't even realise you needed at Shimmys classes.

I loved going to Shimmys classes during my pregnancy and recommend them to every pregnant woman I meet. Made me really relaxed and feel good and I felt I bounded with the baby on the classes.

Private pregnancy classes were delightful

Shimmy and I had classes twice a week in the last month of my pregnancy that were wonderful. The classes given by Shimmy lifted my energy levels and spirits and prepared my body for birth by keeping me flexible and moving in the those important last weeks of my pregnancy. We discussed a lot of great birthing positions and breathing techniques. Shimmy happily gave my husband and I a joint class so we could practice some of the positions together. Would recommend Shimmy's classes on both individual and group basis

Fantastic Ante-Natal Yoga

I took Shimmy's ante-natal yoga class from week 13 until just before my due date and can't thank her enough for being such a great teacher. Her way of structuring the class perfectly integrates exercise and relaxation. She contributed immensely to an easy pregnancy both in terms of physical well-being and peace of mind. For example, I was expecting increasing back and hip pain but experienced none of it, and was also quite laid-back and relaxed throughout the pregnancy and about the birth itself. Shimmy's classes certainly helped with a straightforward and rather speedy birth, and even now I benefit from her teachings for workouts and relaxation during my maternity leave.

Fantastic pregnancy yoga teacher

Shimmy's classes were one of the highlights of my week during my pregnancy; an hour to move, stretch and focus on myself, my body and the growing bump. With plenty of variety in the postures and breathing practised each week, Shimmy has a great teaching style with good attention to what you're doing. I definitely miss her classes!

Restorative Yoga

Shimmy provides the environment to achieve a deeply relaxed state of being . She is wonderfully calm and positive . I regularly attend her Sunday morning class and feel deeply nurtured for the rest of the day and try to hold onto that feeling through the week.

I have got a lot out of attending Shimmy's pregnancy yoga classes. She manages to strike the right balance between making sure one's body is suitably pushed to achieve maximum benefit from stretching and holding strengthening positions -with specific focus on the breath, but also making sure that the body is given appropriate time to restore and relax deeply.


I leave my yoga classes feeling stronger in body & mind (essential for an active, natural birth) and revivified and am looking forward positively to the birth of my baby, knowing that through yoga and healthy living I have tried my best to give my baby and I the best start in our future lives together.

Shimmy is a sensitive, warm and friendly person with a clear passion for teaching yoga and I would thoroughly recommend her classes to anyone.

Wonderful prenatal experience with Shimmy

Shimmy has been giving me private classes before the arrival of my second baby. I've loved our weekly sessions - Shimmy always takes care to tailor them to how I'm feeling each week so my body feels so much better after a class. But she also focuses on the mind and relaxation which has been so beneficial for me. And she's just a lovely person to see each week. I will miss our classes when baby arrives!

Great teacher especially for beginners

I found Shimmy to be a very patient and understanding teacher which was exactly what I needed for my beginner's workshop. Shimmy demonstrated and explained everything clearly and was obviously very knowledgeable.
Shimmy's classes were enjoyable and informative and provided the perfect foundation to build upon. Her enthusiasm and passion for yoga is infectious and makes the class all the more enjoyable.

Brilliant teacher. Have attended 8 beginner yoga classes. Relaxed, friendly and encouraging. Perfect start to basic understanding, explaining foundations on which postures are built and where they progress, Gives confidence to work with own limitations toward better yoga practice. Clear instruction and demonstration, talks through a posture in stages, variations if finding tricky. Always feel better after class.

Warm, caring and competent

I never thought that Yoga was something for me, I was very wrong. My friend had heard of Shimmy and she brought me to Shimmys class, I was hooked from the very start. Shimmy notices you and she makes us feel safe, comfortable and taken care of. I like that she always explains why we are doing the postures and that she always gives us alternatives if it should be to difficult for any reason. She is "hands on" and that is something I appreciate and she corrects us in a friendly way.


(Safety first) Shimmy also encourages us to not be in a hurry and that we should enjoy "the journey" to become"Yoga gurus", Shimmy said something like "if you can do it all at once, what's the point?" I have also been to one of her workshops and we practised inversions which is something that I really enjoy. When it was over after 3 hours I wanted to continue, what I'm trying to say is that it was a great workshop. I have made Yoga a part of my fitness routine and Shimmy is definitely a contributing factor.

"You couldn't be in better hands..."

I've been practicing prenatal yoga with her since the beginning of my pregnancy. Shimmy is a great combination of warm, experienced and dedication.
I love her pregnancy classes and the special attention she gives for each woman, she is very good at teaching, explaining and customizing postures to different practice levels and promoting good physical and mental health
I was always leaving her classes feeling light and renewed, with the sense of great connection to my body and the whole wide world around me. Hope to practice postnatal classes very soon with her !
