“When I went to my first yoga class I experienced great relief, a sensation of 'coming back home'. I discovered yoga during a difficult period in my life and with practice I found space in my mind, stability, strength, balance and silence. It helped me move through hard times and ultimately; to let go.

“Practicing yoga for me is like going into nature and breathing clean air after staying in the city for too long. It taught me that there is a lot of peace and joy inside each one of us that doesn’t depend on anything external. Yoga is a spiritual path for my life.”

Music has been Shir’s main passion and occupation since childhood, playing the recorder and violin. As a professional musician in order to improve body awareness and posture Shir studied Alexander Technique and Feldenkrais Method. Today he shares his love of music and the Devine consciousness, by leading kirtan sessions (chanting mantras). Shir is also inspired by the healing power of magical sounds and uses them in his regular yoga classes.

Born in Israel Shir has always occupied with moral and political questions, longing for a more peaceful environment. As a teenager he was a leader in a socialist youth movement (something similar to Scouts) believing there could be better society. His early non-conformist ideas, with time, transformed to more philosophical and spiritual ones.

In 2004 Shir started his yoga journey with traditional Hatha yoga classes, however in Israel he practiced mainly Vijnana Yoga, a yoga style invented by Orit San-Gupta. It is a combination of Iyengar and slow flow that brings a lot of awareness into the postures as well as the breathing techniques. In Vijnana yoga there is emphasis on the different Vayus (spaces) of the body. Many yogic imprints in Shir’s practice are from this yoga style.

His first teacher-training course was a Sivananda Yoga 200 hours teacher training. During this one-month life transforming experience, Shir discover his life purpose as sharing this beautiful gift of yoga with others. Many of Shir’s teaching are directly connected to the teachings of Swami Sivananda Saraswati and Swami Vishnudevananda.

In his quest of searching for more subtle experiences of yoga and understanding how to deepen his practise, Shir looked for a living master. He found his Guru, Sri Dharma Mittra.
By meeting him, Shir felt that many questions about how to 'live' yoga were fully answered. His Guru helped Shir to have a rapid progress in his own Sadhana (practice of yoga towards self realization). With eternal feeling of gratefulness, Shir completed his advanced teacher training with Dharma Mittra.

Shir has been teaching yoga, full time for the last 6 years. He has been sharing his knowledge all over the world in regular classes, master classes and special workshops. He covers many topics including Pranayama-Bandha-Mudra-Laya, Yoga of sounds, Mantra chanting and detox.

For the last year Shir has travelled around the world without having a home base. This life style invoked him to deepen his own inner base. At the same time his curiosity with complimentary healing methods led him to study Ayurveda and Thai Yoga massage.
