Siobhan Van Lanen has been in professional practice as a Licensed Massage Therapist/Certified Yoga Instructor since 1998. For 15 years, she taught weekly group and private classes and workshops at WOW Fitness Center and in her private studio: Galactivate. With a background in ballet, modern dance, jazz and Oriental dance since childhood, Siobhan has completed dance programs in New York, Egypt, and Belgium and teaches dance fusion classes and workshops.
Siobhan holds a BA in Social Science from Portland State University. She is a long-time conservationist with a love for wildlife and biodiversity. In 2018, she started her Masters in Natural Resources degree through Virginia Tech University CLIGS (Center for Leadership in Global Sustainability). As a wellness educator, she hopes to inspire a re-connection to nature for environmental and human health and well-being.
In 2013, Siobhan began instructing weekly multi-level classes in yoga/ pilates at Timberhill Athletic Club in Corvallis, Oregon where she also offers monthly dance fitness classes. In 2016, she began instructing weekly yoga classes at Oregon State University: College of Public Health and Human Sciences as part of the Faculty Staff Fitness Program. For FSF she has taught Therapeutic Yoga, Restorative Yoga, and now offers Gentle Yoga. In 2017, she began instructing two 1 credit hour Physical Activities Courses (PAC) at Oregon State University; Relaxation 201 and Fitness Yoga 296.
Siobhan enjoys teaching to a wide demographic and seeing the positive impacts of yoga in her students' over-all well-being. Her teaching approach maintains a balance between mind/body aspects of yoga, providing information on anatomy and kinesiology as well as progressive relaxation, self-massage/acupressure, meditation, breath awareness, guided imagery and positive affirmations.
Emphasizing modifications and precautions to poses to prevent injury, she enjoys empowering her students towards optimal health and well-being, and encourages an intentional self-care regime.
