Each of my students is recognized as an individual, and I do my best to honor their yogic needs in the classroom. My classes emphasize breath linked with movement and gentle poses to allow students at any fitness level to enjoy the therapeutic benefits yoga offers, including optimizing breath, enhancing strength, and cultivating internal balance. Releasing muscular-skeletal tension and nourishing the nervous system are some of the benefits. What I strive to provide for my students is a way to decrease the impact of day-to-day stress and provide rejuvenation.

After experiencing the profound benefits of yoga in my own life, I became inspired to share its benefits with others. I am a certified yoga therapist teaching since 1997 in Southern California. I am a registered member of Yoga Alliance and the International Association of Yoga Therapists. In 2015 I completed a clinical Yoga Therapy Internship at the Venice Family Clinic Pain Management Center as part of the Loyola Marymount University Yoga RX Training.

Every time I go to Sonya's class I feel rejuvenated. I arrive completely exhausted and I leave feeling refreshed in body, mind and spirit. The class is well conducted and Sonya keeps in mind the abilities of her students making sure everyone gets the most out of her class. Sonya is very helpful, kind and friendly. Sonya explains, demonstrates and makes sure her students are doing the postures correctly. A caring and concerned teacher, Sonya has in mind the wellbeing of her students. All levels are welcome and everybody will benefit from her class.

Sonys Chapnick is the BEST TEACHER for ALL TYPES OF STUDENTS

I take a variety of levels of class regularly at Santa Monica Yoga santamonicayoga.com from a variety of teachers. I go as often as my work schedule allows. Sonya's classes are a great balance for some of the more challenging classes in my schedule and as well as wonderful respite from the stress of every day life. A new student will be very comfortable in her class and a student with a strong practice will learn something new.

At the end of her Restorative class (Thursdays 3;30pm-4;45pm) , my body feels like I have spent a week on vacation in Fiji!

Life changing yoga!

I searched for nearly a year find a therapeutic yoga class. After I visited many different yoga studios and tested many different classes I finally found a home with Santa Moinca Yoga. I believe that Sonia's classes have changed my life!

I started Sonia's Tuesday and Thursday thereputic classes after being diagnosed with a rare motor neuron disease. After visiting several specialists they told me they didn't have any easy answers and that I could expect to get a lot worse. I decided that I needed to look for other ways to support my over all health. Before i started the class I was so ill i though i might have to stop working. I have a young family and I was struggling through each day.
After attending a month of Sonia's Tuesday and Thursday classes and adding meditation and acupuncture I have had a huge improvement in my health. I have attended Sonia's classes for over 6 months and I am no longer struggling at work but more importantly, I have found the tools and techniques to get me through the times that feel challenging. I feel i am healing from the inside out, not only my physical body, but also my spirit. Sonia's class has honestly changed my life. Her years of yoga experience combined with her gentle and compassionate style and deep knowledge of thereputic yoga has created a space where people can reduce stress, tune into their bodies and find the calmness that lies within the breath. I really believe that this idea lies at the heart of yoga practice.

In the past I have attended many yoga classes that have sometimes done more harm than good, Classes where there is an over all environment of competitiveness or lead by a teacher who is unable to read the needs of the class. I have also been hurt several times other yoga classes. In Sonia's class I am healed.

With Santa Monica yoga I am grateful to have found a community that integrates all the depth and best that yoga practice has to offer all within in a safe and loving environment.

I also think that Santa Monica yoga is offering a huge gift to the community by offering classes that appeal to a wide range of students. I have felt welcomed from the first second I walked through there doors!

Wonderful teacher

I have studied both restorative yoga and Yoga Nidra with Sonya and she is one of my favorite teachers. Sonya is both knowledgeable about the body and sensitive to emotional and physical issues which might be apparent. I highly recommend her for de-stressing and for deep inner work.

Excellent instructor in gentle yoga, level 1, & yoga therapy

Sonya is an excellent instructor who incorporates the importance of breathing techniques with modified yoga postures. She has taught me the importance of breath awareness as I perform my yoga movements, and to listen to my body and know my limitations. With Sonya's guidance, I have experienced improvement in my balance, flexibility, and core strength and have learned to incorporate the practice of yoga into my daily life.

One of my favorite SM Yoga teachers

I've frequently taken Sonya's Thursday restorative yoga class, and I participated in her six week yoga nidra class in January. I really like her teaching style. She's calm, helpful and knowledgeable, and I find her classes to be restful and restorative.
