I completed my 300-hr TT with the Yoga Studies Institute in Arizona, then my 500 and 800-hour trainings with Sri Dharma Mittra. I have taught in New York, Switzerland, Virginia and Los Angeles, my new home!

Sri Dharma Mittra was born in the late 1930’s and has been studying and teaching Yoga for over fifty years. After meeting his Guru Sri Swami Kalaishananda, he immersed himself in the study and practice of the classical eight limbs of Yoga, and dedicated himself to nine years of Karma Yoga (the yoga of action, selfless service.) After being a celebrated teacher for years at his Guru’s ashram, Sri Dharma founded the Yoga Asana Center, currently known as Dharma Yoga New York Center in 1974.

Sri Dharma has been disseminating the ancient knowledge of how to achieve radiant health and spiritual development before styles of Yoga became popular. He remains truthful to the original classical practice and guides his students and student teachers to do the same. For this reason, as well as his experience and knowledge he is frequently referred to as the “Teacher’s Teacher” and for his dedication and fortitude “The Rock of Yoga.” In 1984 Dharma completed the Master Yoga Chart of 908 Postures, as an offering to his Guru and for all Yoga aspirants. This original masterpiece was meticulously assembled from over 1,350 photographs of posture variations Dharma took of himself with a tripod camera before the computer age! You can find a large scale version of the Master Chart in our center posted for inspiration and instruction, as well as just about every yoga school worldwide. Sri Dharma is a most beloved master, he is known for his humility, humor, joy and kindness in teaching. While Sri Dharma continues to teach at his New York center, we lovingly hold space for him as our Guru here at Dharma Yoga LA.

Lovely and fun

Stephanie is a lovely teacher. I enjoyed taking her classes when she taught in Charlottesville, VA. She helped me finally be able to get my headstand after many classes of practice. She is calming and overall very positive. I highly recommend her.

Excellent Teacher & Person

Stephanie is a wonderful teacher who has not only 800 hours of training with Sri Dharma Mittra but has studied with teachers in many traditions, has a long-standing strong practice, and is genuinely focused on helping her students progress in their practices. She is knowledgeable, yet humble. Anyone who practices yoga could learn something from taking classes with Stephanie.

After moving to a new city, I was fortunate enough to meander into Stephanie's Vinyasa Class and have participated in her yoga and meditation classes. Her classes were one of the highlights of my week, where both body and spirit were exercised. Stephanie's classes are thoughtfully planned. New students will be lucky to have her as their yogi!

Favorite yoga teacher in the world.

Stephanie is my favorite yoga teacher this time around the wheel of dharma. She is very knowledgeable about the breadth and depth of Sri Dharma Mittra's yoga style, and well conveys that knowledge to beginners and advanced students alike.

She occasionally gives readings or makes commentary about aspects of the spiritual side of yoga or of its history; these are intimately linked with the practice of the day, and often have pertained to me personally, which I find to be of great comfort and pragmatic utility.

Stephanie is unconcerned with appearance and is devoted to the practice of yoga. I keep thinking of Patanjali 1.39.

Enthusiastic , Knowledgeable and Fun

I was 52 when I took my first yoga class ever with Stephanie and within a year I was able to progress to full wheel and headstand (and I am not a former dancer or gymnist). Her flows have great rhythm and variety and are made even better by great playlists. Her holistic approach and knowledge of yoga makes her instruction more than just a workout.
