Sudha is the founder and primary teacher of Kula Kamala Foundation, a 501c3 public charity. She is a YogaAcharya, a Yoga Therapist and C-IAYT with IAYT. She is also listed as a 500 E-RYT and YACEP with Yoga Alliance.
Yoga Alliance requires all listed individuals and schools to disclaim YA's involvement in Yoga Therapy. So, while YA does "approve" and "advertise" Yoga programming for special needs populations, they claim they do not provide oversight for Yoga Therapy. Sudha agrees. Her Yoga Therapy work, which is grounded in years of practice, education and research as listed in this bio, is overseen (by voluntary adherence to the guidelines established by IAYT), by the International Association of Yoga Therapists.
Sudha began practicing yoga in her early twenties and has found it to be a continually transformative, reaffirming and uplifting lifestyle, one which continues to help her integrate and reconnect more deeply.
A few of the training programs she has completed include: Ayurveda Lifestyle Consultant (Kripalu 500YTT), Ayurveda Yoga Teacher (Kripalu 500YTT), IYT Integrative Yoga (500YTT), Anusara Yoga (200 hours Certification & Mentorship), Sivananda Yoga (200YTT, YogaAcharya), Hatha Yoga Flow (200YTT), Thai Yoga w/Kam Thye Chow, and Level II Reiki w/Reiki Master Rupa Majundar.
Currently, Sudha studies Yoga under the grace and guidance of Sri Swami Adhyatmananda~ji of the Sivananda Lineage (Ahmedabad, India) and is pursuing a second doctorate, this one in Holistic Ministries.
Sudha directs a Yoga Alliance listed RYS (Registered Yoga School) and trains individuals in the various techniques of Yoga so they too can share these practices mindfully, safely and with integrity.
She also founded two hospital based internship programs where the Yoga Therapy student interns receive hands on as well as classroom training applying the techniques of Yoga in special physical, mental, emotional, medical, and complicated circumstances. For over 8 years, she has worked with the general public, and with abused and neglected women and children, at-risk teens, in-patients, mental health patients, seniors, as well as individuals seeking spiritual clarity in their life and relationships. Sudha's service and work in the realm of Yoga expands far beyond the capacity for oversight by Yoga Alliance's registry listing. Her experience and validity as a teacher, guide and advisor are grounded in her years of education and research as listed above. In regard to her broader work, she is a C-IAYT with IAYT, where she voluntarily abides by organizational and personal ethical principals and guidelines that are grounded in non-harming and compassionate professionalism.
In addition to teaching Yoga, Sudha holds a PhD in Anthropology (expertise Biological Archaeology) and is currently a Professor of Yoga and Meditation (Georgian Court University) and previously taught Cultural and Evolutionary Anthropology (Temple University and Monmouth University). Her academic research focused on and she has published scholarly articles on ancient diet and it's relationship to health. Her academic work requires her to have advanced knowledge of human skeletal anatomy and she is considered a expert in her field.
Having a deep appreciation for the arts, Sudha composed, produced and recorded three CDs of intellectual experimental folk rock, she is an artist in several mediums including computer graphics, pencil and acrylic, she writes daily and has published poetry, and designs yoga inspired tee shirts. Sharon has acted on stage and screen and is an animal, social and environmental advocate.
