Summer Cushman is an artist, minister, and yoga teacher. She has led retreats and workshops throughout the country on such topics as spirituality, creativity and embodiment. In all of her work, she strives to help people connect with their embodied emotions and live with intention. She is interested in helping her students find and enjoy the functional benefit of yoga postures, to understand the energetic effects of breath work, and to build a meaningful personal practice. She studies the deeper dimensions of yogic philosophy and tries to help her students integrate the fullness of yoga into their daily lives both on and off the mat.
A Northwest native, Summer earned her Bachelor of Arts in printmaking and art history from Whitworth University in Spokane, Washington. She earned her Master of Divinity degree with an emphasis in spirituality from Earlham School of Religion in Richmond, Indiana. She began practicing yoga in 2001 and received foundational training and certification from CITYOGA School of Yoga and Health in Indianapolis under the direction of Nikki Myers and Marsha Pappas. She received advanced training and certification as a 500hr Viniyoga Teacher under the direction of Gary Kraftsow at the American Viniyoga Institute in California. She plans to begin her Yoga Therapist training in 2015.
