Yoga has been a blessing to me. It came to me at a time when I was dealing with a lot of physical and emotional stress. I have been overweight my entire life and about 12yrs ago after the birth of my second child, I knew I needed to make a change for myself and also be there for my children. After losing about 100 lbs in 2009, my body went through a lot of physical stress and going through school and raising two little ones, it took a toll on me emotionally. That’s when I resorted to yoga to restore some of that Qi that I had lost. Yoga combined with a daily meditation practice helped me bring balance to both my mind and body. Around the same time, I discovered the amazing science of Ayurveda which was the missing piece of the puzzle. Know my imbalances, I used Ayurvedic guidelines of daily routines and diet to bring balance on a “ wholistic” level. Through my personal transformational journey, I knew that this was my path to share my healing with others and pay it forward. I am a RYT 200 and a certified Yoga Health Counselor through Kanyakumari Ayurveda and Yoga Wellness Center, Milwaukee. I am also a certified Yin Yoga teacher having undergone training with Darlene Vander Hoop through Inner Fire Yoga, Madison. In addition, I have undergone iRest Yoga Nidra instruction from Master Teacher, Mira Binzen. I have also taken numerous Iyengar workshops from Senior Iyengar teachers such as John Schumacher, Eddy Marks and Mary Obendorfer and my passion for Iyengar yoga has led me to practice with an Iyengar certified teacher on a regular basis to learn proper form, breathing, alignment and efficient use of props to get into a pose. As a yoga teachers. I teach Aroma Yin, Slow Flow Vinyasa, Restorative and Alignment Yoga for all levels. As a Yoga Health Counselor, I assist students in creating holistic wellness in their lives using the guidelines of Ayurveda.

Excellent teacher!

Excellent teacher for all levels Surya is very aware of her class and helps make individual adjustments as needed for specific needs or abilities while maintaining the experience and environment for the rest of the class. Her teaching style and personality is very kind and approachable.

Intuitve Teacher

I've gone on a yoga retreat with Surya and have taken a couple of her aroma yin classes. The retreat was amazing, so well thought out and executed. I have been on many retreats in my life and have never experienced such relaxation and renewal as this one. Surya was intentional with every aspect of the retreat and we all reaped the benefits. Her yin class is equally amazing. After my father passed away I had a heavy burden that would not lift and we did hip openers during yin one night.

Afterward the weight lifted and I felt light for the first time in weeks. Throughout the class Surya explained we carry a lot of stress in our hips. It was amazing to feel the release of the weight that came from gentle instruction. I cannot recommend Surya's classes enough, she has found her calling and excels in sharing her knowledge with those she instructs.

This woman is passionate!

Attended a retreat organized and hosted by Surya. Although not everything was to my liking, I got more yoga than I hoped for abs that was my primary reason for going. I learned new poises, tasted new foods and made new friends. Without Surya's passion for all things yoga, this would not have been the retreat it was!

Mindful, Powerful Teacher

Surya gave me one of the best class experiences I've ever had. I felt incredibly calm and grounded, but felt all sorts of dormant muscles wake up! Surya is grounded, caring and authentic in her practice. I definitely recommend her classes!

Balanced and focused

Surya creates a balanced practice and focuses on breathing while staying strong and steady. She will make you work hard but everything is achievable. She is also great with giving pointers for how to best get into a pose and find your balance.
