has been practicing yoga since 1997. She has based her teacher trainings mainly out of Los Angeles at Sacred Movement, Exhale studio in Venice, California and Yoga Works since 2002.
Under the lineage of Krishnamacharya and his son TKV Desikachar.
Walking life as a practice in Devotion as a Yogini she carries the love for Bhakti Yoga as well. She studied with Jai Uttal and Daniel Paul in a week long Bhakti Camp as well as studies she has done in Indian Classical Voice.
Her Indian Classical studies in college at California Institute of the Arts brought her to Marin to study at the Ali Akbar College ~ Sanskrit, Tabla and Voice under Maestro Ali Akbar Khan and Rajeev Taranath and Rita Sahai.
At this time she was inspired to go to Varanasi and Krsna’s Homeland Vrindavan to study Dhrupad classical voice and be filled by the heart of bhajans in its finest Rasa from the temples.
While in Northern India was blessed by the oppurtunity to study with His Holiness the Dalai Lama in Dharma Sala. From spending time in the temples of India to Sacred Sites around the world making her prayers continues to study the path of Yoga as the Path to the Heart, and a way of life. She is also a Vipassana Meditator under Goenka’s lineage since 2001 participating in 10 day silent retreats to cultivate deep mindful practices of meditation. Also has had the fortunate oppurtunity to sit with Goenka in person who resides in Burma these days.
Since 2001 Sydney Leigh has been a student of Mata Amritanandamayi otherwise known as Ammachi partaking retreats and at her Ashram in San Ramon, California over the years.
