Initially, Ty explored Hatha Yoga for the physical and health benefits, wanting to stay flexible and vital as he matured. Ty's knowledge of yoga had been based on popular culture and limited the definition of yoga solely to a physical exercise. The longer he practiced, the more he studied other schools of yoga, and Ty learned that there was so much more to yoga than just going to the gym. Yoga promotes a mind body connection that can strengthen our nervous system, improve the workings of our glands and organs, and retrain our brain to live a happier life. And, when taught properly, it is accessible to everyone regardless of physical issues.
When his favorite yoga classes was facing interruption due to loss of the teacher, Ty stepped up to the plate to become a yoga teacher and trained in Hatha yoga at the Empath Yoga School where he acquired his 200 RYT registration with Yoga Alliance (2012).
Ty's exploration of various types of yoga led him to Kundalini Yoga, a full yoga (Raja Yoga) practice that supports a therapeutic approach to yoga. Kundalini Yoga's goal is to strengthen the nervous system and to support the optimized use of the organs and glands.
As his Kundalini Yoga practice progressed, in addition to physical benefits, Ty noticed many subtle, positive changes in mental clarity, emotional stability, and a new balance in life. As his passion for pranayama, meditation, and mindful movement grew, a love for an integrative approach to yoga developed.
Next, Ty pursued teacher training in Kundalini Yoga and Ayurveda, and he acquired his 500 RYT Yoga Alliance registration (2014). In addition, Ty has had the opportunity to study with Joe Barnett, a master student of Paul Grilley and to achieve training in Yin Yoga (2014), a variation of Hatha yoga that promotes slow, deep stretching of the body's fascia and ligaments. This training was a breakthrough in understanding the significance of alignment in Hatha yoga. Due to human differences in body structure, there can be no such things as perfect alignment in yoga. We all have different physiology.
In 2018, Ty finished his training with KRI (Kundalini Research Institute) and acquired the KRI certification in Kundalini Yoga. He is currectly a registered yoga teacher with the International Kundalini Yoga Teachers Association ().
In 2019, Ty trained with the Accessible Yoga organization (), an international organization that is setting a standard for making yoga accessible to every one. This training expanded Ty's knowledge for working with people with real or perceived limitations. Truly, Yoga is for every one, and every one can practice and enjoy yoga. You just need to find the right class and the right teacher that works for you.
His career experience in the corporate world has taught Ty the dangers of stress at work and in personal life. With methods of stress reduction always in his focus, Ty studied with Yogi Amrit Desai at the Amrit Ashram. In an intensive study of Yoga Nidra, Ty became certified as a Yoga Nidra facilitator (2012). Ty studied Therapeutic Qigong with Dr AIden Kuhn (2015) and Sun style Tai Chi with Dr Paul Lam in Sun style Tai Chi (2014). Integrating these gentle movement modalities with his training in hypnosis, mindfulness, and yoga, Ty enjoys creating and leading stress busting workshops.
