Vanessa Pattison is originally from California where she lived with her husband until a sense of adventure called them to San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua in 2005. She came to the mat as a teacher by accident just from sheer desire to practice with others and found she loved being there. Vanessa has taught classes in and around San Juan del Sur for over 6 years and her classes maintain a steady flow of locals and tourists alike.

During her years teaching in town many teachers have arrived and shared with her their craft greatly enhancing her life and her teaching. Vanessa became certified in 2007 by School of Yoga. She has also studied with Yoga Works and countless amazing teachers during the last decade. Vanessa is also a mother of two beautiful boys born in Nicaragua.

Having given birth naturally lead her to another passion-the role of doula, assisting women before, during and after childbirth using yogic breathing and relaxation techniques. She is exhilarated about the creation of Zen and she hopes you feel that energy as you step through the garden and into the studio. What started out as an “accident” turned into a passion and she couldn’t imagine doing anything else.

Vanessa, an inspiring mama!

Vanessa and the ZEN community she has created is such a positive haven for travellers and expats. Open level and approachable classes for a diverse clientele, Vanessa brings a down to earth, loving vibe to her classes with great music and lots of fun.

One of the Best

After traveling the world and practicing many different yoga modalities over the years with many great teachers........I found Vanessa to be an outstanding teacher. Her timing is absolutely impeccable. My pet hate is when teachers hold you in a pose forever thinking more is better (when in actual fact it feels out of balance to me). Don't get me wrong it is definitely challenging but equally restful.

Vanessa never overstretched us as she has the ability to intuit very clearly just the right amount of intensity and restful recovery for the class. This is a quality I find few teachers actually possess to the degree that she offers. She makes it so easy to be guided, to trust and focus on the breathe and practice, so as not to expend energy getting caught up in thought. It just flows. I look forward to the day that I can come back to Nic and do my teacher training with her.

A great teacher

I took a 200 RYT at Zen in 2013. Vanessa assisted with the teaching. And I took 3-4 classes with her every week for a month. She is sush a talented teacher and her classes can best be described as FUN. And always different. She is the kind of teacher that makes people like yoga. She is very talented but not a show-off. I would travel from Norway to Nicaragua again for a class with Vanessa in her amazing studio in SAN Juan del Sur.
