Extended Hand-to-Big-Toe Pose

Utthita Hasta Padangusthasana

Utthita Hasta Padangustasana, Extended Hand-To-Big-Toe Pose (also known as Standing Hand to Toe, or Standing Big Toe Hold) is a standing balancing posture that strengthens the ankles and legs, stretches the hamstrings, and promotes balance and focus. Beginners may need to work on this pose by using a strap to extend the leg, leaning against a wall for balance, or resting the raised leg on the (padded) top edge of the back of chair. In Sanskrit, utthita means 'extended', hasta means 'hand', padangustha means 'big toe', and asana is 'posture'.
