Headstand, or Salamba Shirshasana (from the Sanskrit, sa: 'with', alamba: 'support', sirsa: 'head', and asana: 'posture') is an inversion that strengthens the legs, arms, core muscles and spine. Headstand calms the brain, helps relieve stress, and increases focus and balance. Like for handstands, beginners will often feel safer practicing against the wall. The neck is a major focus of this pose, and particular care should be taken not to place too much pressure on that area.
