Lotus Pose

Padmasana, Lotus Pose, and Ardha Padmasana, Half Lotus, are cross-legged seated postures traditionally used for meditation. Full Lotus is the more advanced variation of the pose. Sukhasana, Easy Pose, is often a good starting point for beginning practitioners. These seated poses all work on opening the hips, and groin. They stretch the knees, ankles and thighs, and strengthen the entire back. Lotus and Half Lotus have a calming effect on the mind, and reduce stress and anxiety. The Sanskrit name Padmasana comes from padma: 'lotus', and asana: 'posture'.
