Side Plank Pose

Vasisthasana

Side Plank Pose is an arm balance that serves as a good preparation for more challenging arm-balancing postures. It works on many parts of the body, strengthening the wrists, arms, back, core muscles, and legs. In its full expression, (where the top leg is raised) the pose also provides a deep stretch to the back of the legs. The Sanskrit word vasistha, means 'best' or 'richest', and it is also the name of several sages in the yoga tradition.
