Upward-Facing Dog

Urdhva Mukha Shvanasana

Upward-Facing Dog, or Urdhva Mukha Shvanasana (from the Sanskrit, urdhva: 'upward', mukha: 'facing', svana: 'dog', and asana: 'posture') is one of the better known yoga poses, traditionally done as part of the Sun Salutation sequence. It is a backbend that helps improve posture, increases flexibility of the spine and shoulders, and strengthens the core, the arms, wrists, and legs.
